Man Charged For Alleged Opioid Trafficking Following Traffic Stop In Newton

NEWTON, N.C. – Deputies say they charged a man for allegedly trafficking opioids including cocaine, hydrocodone, and marijuana.

On Thursday, February 22, 2022, deputies performed a traffic stop on 7th Street near Conover Boulevard due to a potential window tint violation. According to deputies, a sheriff’s office K-9 alerted the deputies of the presence of narcotics.

After searching the vehicle, deputies say they seized a total of 24 grams of cocaine, 10 hydrocodone pills, 15 grams of marijuana, and multiple scales. Deputies also received a search warrant for Henry’s residence and found additional amounts of marijuana and hydrocodone pills.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 55-year-old Devore Gerard Henry. Henry has been charged with the following: trafficking in opioids, possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver schedule II, controlled substances, possession of schedule II controlled substance, felony maintaining a vehicle for the purposes of manufacturing, selling or delivering controlled substances. possession of marijuana, simple possession of schedule II controlled substance, resist/delay/obstruct a public officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a window tint violation.
