ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A 41-year-old Salisbury man has been arrested for solicitation of a child after an undercover chat operation by the sheriff’s office.

According to a news release, an investigation sparked after the suspect, identified as Steven Polk Jr., contacted a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office undercover detective through social media, and soon began sending sexually explicit messages. Polk thought the undercover detective was a 15-year-old child during their conversations.

The suspect in the case eventually requested that he and the child meet at the Granite Quarry Civic Park in order to carry out sexual acts, authorities say.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Granite Quarry-Faith Police Department arrested waited for Polk at the meeting site and arrested him. When Polk was detained by authorities he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Polk was charged with solicitation of a child by computer, disseminating obscene material to a minor, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, deputies say.
