Crews Clearing Drains, Creeks Before Rainfall
CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte Storm Water Services spent Wednesday and Thursday inspecting storm drains and creeks for blockage before predicted flooding.
Crews removed several feet of tree debris blocking one drain that passes under Providence Road in East Charlotte. The Four Mile Creek there is one hot spot that causes major road flooding. Crews are on standby as weather passes through the city.
“When we get more than an inch of rain an hour, that’s when we get flash flooding,” said Mark Boone with Storm Water Services. “So we’ll be looking at sites like this to make sure they’re clear, there’s no obstruction on creeks that would cause the creek to over top the road.”
Storm Water Services unveiled a grant program Thursday that will help homeowners in Charlotte lift their houses out of a flood plane. Click here for that information.
