BOSTON (AP) β Daily fantasy sports companies are taking different approaches when it comes to deciding what states they’ll operate in as their industry faces increased scrutiny.
Many, including market leaders DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo, continue to offer their online contests in most states while steering clear of a handful where there are consensus local regulations effectively banning the games.
But there are a small but growing number of companies pulling out of U.S. markets or seriously considering it.
Canada’s StarsDraft notably withdrew from all but four states in October. Star Fantasy Leagues, a New York-based operator, also recently withdrew from about half of all U.S. states. And CBS Sports has quietly stopped offering daily fantasy games.
Industry experts say there’s little concern the industry is on the verge of collapse: many of the companies retrenching have barely made a dent in the market.
