INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jets cornerback Darrell Revis (dah-REHL’ REE’-vihs) accounted for two of the Colts’ five turnovers in New York’s 20-7 triumph at Indianapolis. Revis recovered Frank Gore’s third-quarter fumble in the end zone and later picked off an Andrew Luck pass to kill another Colts drive. Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 22 of his 34 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns as the Jets improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2011.
TORONTO (AP) — David Price tossed seven shutout innings and the Toronto Blue Jays stretched their lead in the AL East to 3 ½ games by downing the second-place New York Yankees, 4-2. Price struck out seven and held the Yanks to no runs and two hits, one night after New York scored 11 times over its last four at-bats against the Mets. Jose Bautista had two of the Blue Jays’ eight hits, including an RBI single that put Toronto ahead to stay.
HOUSTON (AP) — The Astros are within a game of the AL West-leading Rangers following Houston’s 6-3 triumph over the Angels. Dallas Keuchel (KY’-kul) picked up his 18th win by limiting the Angels to a run and six hits over 7 2/3 innings. Evan Gattis (GAT’-ihs) and Carlos Correa hit two-run homers to put the Astros up 4-0 before Corea’s RBI double made it 6-1 in the seventh.
UNDATED (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have retained their four-game lead in the NL Central by scoring twice in the bottom of the eighth to beat Cincinnati 2-1. Jhonny Peralta (JAH’-nee peh-RAHL’-tah) tied it with an RBI single before Stephen Piscotty delivered the go-ahead double. The second-place Pirates kept pace as Starling Marte (mahr-TAY’) went 4-for-5 with a solo homer and two RBIs in the Bucs’ 9-3 thrashing of Colorado.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets’ magic number to win the NL East is seven after Jonathon Niese (nees) combined with three relievers on a five-hitter in a 4-0 shutout of Atlanta. Niese gave up three hits in six innings and was backed by Michael Conforto’s solo homer. Daniel Murphy capped the scoring with a two-run double and Yoenis Cespedes (yoh-EH’-nehs SEHS’-peh-dehs) went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles as the Mets extended Shelby Miller’s winless streak to 23 consecutive starts.
