NFL-SCHEDULE

How many unbeatens will be left?

UNDATED (AP) β€” Nine teams are unbeaten after two weeks of play in the NFL. That will change today because the 2-0 Falcons are playing host to the 2-0 Cowboys. Atlanta has started the season with consecutive come-from-behind fourth-quarter victories, while the Cowboys have won despite losing starters Dez Bryant and Tony Romo to injuries. The Dallas defense, which is off to a great start, may have to shoulder the burden as Romo watches from the sidelines with a broken left collarbone as Brandon Weeden takes over the offense.

The Broncos improved to 2-0 by scoring 14 points in a nine-second span in the final minute of their 31-24 win over the Chiefs. This evening they are playing the Lions in Detroit. Arizona is off to a 2-0 start and the Cardinals are home to the 49ers, Carolina has also won its first two games and the Panthers are hosting the Saints, unbeaten Cincinnati is in Baltimore against the Ravens, 2-0 New England is entertaining Jacksonville and the 2-0 Jets are at home to the Eagles. The Packers are also off to a 2-0 start and they entertain the Chiefs Monday night.

The rest of the schedule has the Titans home to the Colts, Tampa Bay at Houston, the Vikings entertaining the Chargers, Pittsburgh facing the Rams in St. Louis, the Browns home to the Raiders, Chicago at Seattle and the Bills in Miami playing the Dolphins.

MLB-SCHEDULE

Final game for AL West rivals

UNDATED (AP) β€” The Astros and Rangers complete their big series this afternoon with Texas starting the day with a 3 Β½-game lead in the American League West. It’s up to All-Star Dallas Keuchel (KY’-kehl) to keep the Rangers in check as he goes for his 15th win against no losses at Minute Maid Park this season.

The tightest race in baseball is in the National League Central, where the banged-up Cardinals now lead the Pirates by just three games. St. Louis dropped its magic number to five Saturday, but also had infielder Matt Carpenter exit with left hip tightness not long after finding out pitcher Carlos Martinez is done for the year with a shoulder strain. The Cards are already without star catcher Yadier Molina (yah-DEE’-urr MOH’-lee-nuh), who will be re-examined Monday for a slight ligament tear in his left thumb. Today the Cards face the Brewers while this evening the Pirates conclude their series with the Cubs in Chicago.

The Dodgers are trying to wrap up the National League West today as they close a series in Denver against the Rockies. LA needs a win and loss by the Giants to clinch. San Francisco is at Oakland.

This has certainly been a season of two different stories for Braves pitcher Shelby Miller. An All-Star in July, he has gone 0-15 in his last 23 starts. He and the Braves are facing the Marlins today.

The rest of the card has the Yankees home to the White Sox, the Rays at Toronto, Detroit home to Minnesota, the Reds entertaining the NL East champion Mets, Washington home to Philadelphia, the Orioles at Boston, the Indians looking for a sweep of the Royals in Kansas City, the Angels home to the Mariners and Arizona at San Diego.

The night game has the Cubs entertaining the Pirates. Each team has clinched a spot in the playoffs and the Pirates are still hoping to catch the Cardinals in the National League Central race.

Jake Arrieta’s (ehr-ee-ET’-uhs) Cy Young-worthy season can get a little more special if he can win tonight. The right-hander, who leads the majors with 20 wins, can become the first Cubs pitcher with more than 20 victories since Ferguson Jenkins went 24-13 in 1971. A.J Burnett starts for the Pirates, who have won eight straight.

GOLF-TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Spieth leads

ATLANTA (AP) β€” The final round of the PGA’s Tour Championship is today in Atlanta and Jordan Spieth (speeth) enters play with a one-shot lead over Henrik Stenson. A win would give Spieth, the winner of the Masters and U.S. Open this year, the FedEx Cup playoff bonus of $10 million bonus check.

Spieth chased Henrik Stenson, the midway leader of the Tour Championship, over the 18 holes of the third round and eventually passed him with a 20-foot birdie on the 18th hole. Spieth shot a third-round 2-under 68 on a rainy day to take a one-shot lead over Stenson, who shot a 2-over 72.

CHAMPIONS TOUR-FIRST TEE OPEN

Monty is the man

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) β€” Colin Montgomerie bogeyed the final hole of his second round to leave him one shot ahead of Olin Browne at the Champions Tour’s First Tee Open at Pebble Beach after two rounds. The final round is today.

NASCAR-SYLVANIA 300

Qualifying for Sunday race

LOUDON, N.H. (AP) β€” Carl Edwards starts today’s Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway from the pole. He took his third pole of the season with a lap of 137.980 mph. Kevin Harvick was second, followed by Kurt Busch.

This is the second of the 10 Chase for the Sprint Cup races.

F1-JAPANESE GP

Hamilton wins again

SUZUKA, Japan (AP) β€” Defending Formula One champ Lewis Hamilton bounced back from a poor showing in the Singapore Grand Prix to win the Japanese Grand Prix. He finished ahead of Mercedes teammate Nico (NEE’-koh) Rosberg while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, the winner in Singapore, was third.

In the current world standings Lewis is first with 277 points while Rosberg has 229 and Vettel 218.

There are five races left in the season.
