AMSTERDAM (AP) β Dutch football association chief Michael van Praag says he wants to serve a single four-year term as FIFA president to restore its credibility before handing the leadership to a new generation.
Van Praag began outlining his vision on Wednesday for the future of the world governing body, and his bid to become its president at a May 29 ballot.
He says, “FIFA is constantly under suspicion of conflicts of interest, of nepotism, of corruption.”
Van Praag’s comments came just hours after Portugal great Luis Figo announced plans to challenge sitting President Sepp Blatter.
Van Praag says he submitted his candidacy with backing from five federations: Belgium, Sweden, Scotland, Romania and the Faroe Islands, as well as the Netherlands.
