Arrest Made In Fatal East Charlotte Hit & Run

UPDATE: The owner and driver of the Honda mini-van involved in the accident has been identified as Luis Fernando Perez-Rivera. Shortly after the incident, Mr. Perez-Rivera called to report that someone had moved his van. When officers arrived at Mr. Perez’s apartment, no one came to the door.

Detectives later made contact with Mr. Perez, who agreed to come to CMPD headquarters to speak with detectives. After speaking with detectives, Mr. Perez was charged with Driving While Impaired, Felony Death by Vehicle, and Felony Hit and Run.

Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors to the accident at this time.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Investigators with CMPD are trying to find the suspect they say fatally struck a person overnight and took off.

The accident happened on Central Avenue in east Charlotte early Monday morning. Officials say the suspect fatally hit a pedestrian and took off.

A mini-van that is believed to have been the one involved in the accident was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Investigators are running the license plates now to track down the owner.
