Concerned Citizen Helps Police Arrest Breaking And Entering Suspects

Charlotte, N.C. — Police say they arrested several people who are responsible for breaking into two gun shops and a home in Charlotte.

Police responded to multiple 911 calls regarding suspicious persons in the area of David Jennings Avenue and Gatesmill Avenue on March 23rd.

A concerned citizen called due to a break-in that happened in the neighborhood the previous day. Officers that responded to the call say the residence had been forcibly entered and property was taken by suspects.

The officers that were circulating the area quickly located and detained four persons who were seen fleeing the location on foot. Two of the suspects were juveniles whose names will not be released and the other two suspects were identified as Demarcus Davis and Rasheed Williams.

According to the media release, officers located two suspect vehicles, one burgundy and one white, that both fled the scene. The driver of the burgundy vehicle, identified as Jamil Davis, wrecked the car and then fled from the location. The vehicle was also identified as being stolen earlier in the day.

The white suspect vehicle was also identified as being stolen earlier that day and found abandoned on Ada Court. The driver of the white vehicle was located and detained and identified as a 15-year-old juvenile suspect.

The six suspects were taken to police headquarters and questioned by University City Division Detectives. Several of the suspects confessed to their involvement of the house break-ins and the attempted break-ins of two gun shops.

Williams, Davis and the two juveniles were charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. The suspects that drove the vehicles, Davis and the 15-year-old juvenile, were charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.

The three adult suspects were taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and detectives obtained secure custody orders for the three juvenile suspects.
