SUPCO Issues Majority, Dissenting Opinions On Gay Marriage Decision

Β WASHINGTON, D.C. — Five of the Supreme Court Justices voted in favor of marriage equality, while four voted against.
The pivotal swing vote came from Justice Anthony Kennedy. Β In his majority opinion, he wrote: “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family.”
In one of the dissenting opinions, Chief Justice John Roberts argued the court should not be able to set such a precedent, saying, “…under the Constitution, judges have power to say what the law is, not what it should be.”
