Charlotte Worship Leader Stabbed in Southwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A local worship leader was stabbed at a home in southwest Charlotte.  Police say the stabbing happened Wednesday at approximately 1:48 p.m. on Barringer Drive.

When officers arrived, police say Matt Bentley, a worship leader at Forest Hills Church, was suffering from a non life-threatening stab wound. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center.

Officers say the suspect left the home in the victim’s Nissan Altima.  Police were able to locate the vehicle a short time later and took Corey Edgerton in custody.

Edgerton has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, larceny of motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods, possession with the intent to sell and distribute marijuana, resisting officer and assault inflicting serious bodily injury.
