Chills & Thrills After Halloween

Most Piedmont and Foothills communities will see their first freezes of the season over the next couple of nights.

Happy Halloween! A chill will likely run down your spine tonight as much colder air filters in behind the cold front that moved through the Carolinas yesterday. You’ll certainly want to stay bundled up like a mummy while trick-or-treating tonight. Freeze Warnings are in effect for the Metro and northwestward tonight; we’ll likely see another one Thursday morning as lows run deep into the 20s and 30s over the next couple of nights. Wind chills in the High Country may bottom out in the single digits, as well. Highs will end up well below average on Wednesday and Thursday as highs struggle to get out of the 30s, 40s, and 50s.

Sunshine and the eventual shift of winds in a more southerly direction will allow for a gradual temperature recovery into the 70s by the weekend. Rain chances remain few and far between over the five days, but models are picking up on another potential rainmaking system early next week. Highs may once again approach 80° before the system arrives. The tropics are quiet for now, but the National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave that may impact Central America this weekend.
