Sheriff: Deadly officer-involved shooting under investigation

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C.– A deadly officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Chesterfield County.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to Westfield Creek Church Road after reports of a shooting with the suspect barricaded in a home Friday night around 9:15 p.m.

When they arrived, deputies came under gunfire and called for backup.  Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and SLED SWAT team responded to the scene.

Deputies attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender for hours but were unable to.  They say the suspect fired at officers multiple times during the standoff.

Around noon Saturday, the suspect came out of the home and challenged officers with a firearm and officers returned fire.

The suspect was hit and Chesterfield County EMS began to treat him.  He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The shooting is under investigation by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
