Great Falls Rescue Squad Lieutenant Terminated And Charged With Breach Of Trust
CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. – A Great Falls Rescue Squad first lieutenant was arrested and charged with breach of trust as a result of an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement, the sheriff’s office announced.
The arrest on Friday, November 3rd comes two days after the deputy, Joshua Cauthen, was terminated from his position at the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the arrest report, Cauthen, 32, committed breach of trust with fraudulent intent while serving as a sheriff’s deputy sometime between January 16th, 2023 and July 12th, 2023. In between that time, Cauthen allegedly used a debit card issued to him through his role as a first lieutenant at the Great Falls Rescue Squad to make 13 transactions for personal gain in Chester, Lancaster, York and Horry counties.
Police say the transactions totaled $1,659.28. They identified Cauthen as the suspect via video surveillance, financial records and witness statements.
Cauthen was charged with breach of trust with criminal intent less than $2,000, according to the law enforcement. He was booked at the Chester County Detention Center.
Cauthen served as deputy sheriff in Chester County since February of 2021, working for the Enforcement and Special Services Divisions.
