Gaston County Recycling Program Has A Plan For Plastic Bags

GASTON COUNTY – Gaston County’s solid waste and recycling team is making a big effort to get people to recycle.

In county, the only towns with curbside recycling are Belmont and Mount Holly.

Now, everyone in the county can not only drop of their recyclable’s at these one of these seven sites, but they now have a special place to drop off all plastic bags as well.

Nan Kirlin is Gaston County’s recycling coordinator and is working with ‘Keep Gastonia Beautiful’ and Food Lion to collect all forms of plastic bags.

“So food lion will take our plastic bags,” said Kirlin. “We will collect them here as people bring their recycling to us, pop them right in the recycling container.”

They’re also doing this with the help of Trex, a company that creates outdoor items made from recycled materials.

In Gaston County, there are seven recycling sites across the area. Now thanks to Trex, you have the opportunity to drop off you plastic bags and films in these white containers at the convenient sites. Everything from cereal bags, newspaper sleeves, and even those amazon prime bags.

These boxes were delivered to the seven convenient sites across the county. That way, your recycling efforts are reduced to a one stop shop.
