Chilly Start to Workweek

After a deluge of rainfall this weekend, storm chances remain few and far between through the next five days.

Sunday set a new daily record for rainfall with over 2″, but don’t expect a whole lot of wetness over the next few days. Cold air will establish itself over the Carolinas in its stead as temperatures dip 5-10° below normal. Stiff northwest flow this Monday afternoon will make it difficult for highs to get out of the 30s and 40s as sporadic snow showers taper off in the High Country this afternoon. A deep freeze arrives across our area overnight into Tuesday before temperatures climb a bit into midweek. Any hint of a meaningful warm-up will be dashed as another cold front sweeps in from the northwest by Wednesday night. While the incoming front won’t bring any rain (or snow), it will re-establish our connection with bitterly cold air through the end of the workweek.

It’s a long way out, but our next shot at meaningful rainfall arrives by the end of this coming weekend. Models are hashing out the details on an area of low pressure that will develop in the northern Gulf by the end of the week. The Carolinas may get clipped by some moisture as the budding system jaunts northeastward. That said, most guidance keeps us dry over the vast majority of the next seven days. For now, expect a mainly rain-free weekend with near-average temperatures.
