YORK COUNTY, S.C. – The York County Coroner has identified the body of the missing kayaker on Lake Wylie, as 45-year-old Frederick Robinson. Robinson was a resident of Rock Hill.
Divers recovered Robinson’s body Saturday afternoon with the help of sonar equipment approximately around 2:30 p.m. on Lake Wylie.
The search for the missing kayaker began Friday night on the lake near Joslin Pointe Lane, when Robinson’s kayak overturned and Robinson didn’t resurface.
A spokesperson with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources says, “The man was kayaking with a friend. The group he was at the lake with headed for shore, but he went back out on the lake. That’s when his kayak flipped and he did not resurface.”
Investigators say Robinson was with other boats on Friday night when he decided to go back into the lake alone.
At this time, WCCB can’t confirm if Robinson was wearing a life jacket.
The autopsy and toxicology tests are currently pending.
