Homicide Investigation In Pineville Underway, Suspect In Custody

PINEVILLE, NC — Police are investigating after a woman was found shot to death on Olive Street Monday night.

Police say 54-year-old Lorene Simpson was found dead inside her home on Olive Street just after 8pm Monday after they received a 911 call in reference to a shooting. According to a report, police also found the suspect inside the home with self-inflicted wounds.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital and remains in stable condition. Police say Simpson and the suspect did know each other but have not released the nature of their relationship.

Investigators are still working to learn what led to the shooting. Charges are currently pending.
