New Phone App “Hands Up 4 Justice” Developed To Record Interactions With Police

CHARLOTTE, NC– In light of recent officer involved shootings, an app geared at protecting drivers is gaining in popularity.

The “Hands Up 4 Justice” app wasΒ  brainstormed right here in the Queen City.Β It’s purpose is to give people a new way to record interactions with police.

“I should not as a citizen have to fear for my life when a police officer pulls me over,” says developer Duncan Kirkwood.

Kirkwood along with his siblings developed the “Hands Up 4 Justice” app to protect drivers.

“IfΒ  you look at what happened in Baton Rouge the two officers had body cameras but they fell off,” says Kirkland.Β “It’s for the victim the citizen to have a visual record of what happened,” says Kirkwood.

This is how it works; download the app, add your emergency contact.Β  If you are pulled over by police, they say you can put the phone on your dashboard.Β Once you press record, your video will be uploaded and saved every 2 minutes and your emergency contact will be notified of the stop and videos.

“I believe that 99-98 percent of police officers are heroes that every single day they go out and risk their lives courageously in order to keep us safe,” says Kirkwood.

We asked drivers in Charlotte,Β  what they thought of the new app?

“I think its pretty nice, pretty nice, we need that out here,” said Chad Funderburk

Kirkwood says he hopes to show people a problem exist.

“A lot of them still don’t believe this is an issue so the more video proof the more video we can show the full story unfiltered, then yea the more they can’t deny it,” says Kirkwood.
