Hillary Clinton Speaks at VFW National Convention in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC – Hillary Clinton made her case for the Presidency Monday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention in Uptown.
“I will be ready to get to work on day one. I take nothing more seriously than our security,” Clinton told the crowd.
She says it’s her experience that qualifies her to be Commander-in-Chief. Speaking in front of a crowd of more than 5,000, Clinton laid out plans that include reforming the VA and helping veterans find jobs.
She didn’t mention Donald Trump by name, but made several veiled references to her Republican challenger.
“I don’t understand people who trash talk about America, who talk about us as being in decline,” she said.
Linda Wright says she liked what she heard, but wants to hear what Trump has to say Tuesday.
“Neither one has swayed me. So I wanted to hear more. And so I can make a good decision when I go to vote,” Wright says.
A much friendlier audience greeted Clinton at her second top, an event for Democratic Party Volunteers at the Neighborhood Theatre in NoDa.
“I think what she’s done is be able to talk about what she can do in this country. It’s evident. It’s evident what she can do,” says Monroe, NC resident Doreen Green.
Back at the Convention Center, vets say no matter who they support, they’re glad both candidates are talking about Veterans issues.
“They have to admit that we’re a big voting block. And we vote with our hearts and our minds, and we want to make sure that every single person that serves this country gets the care that they earned,” says Jim Tuorila.
