Charlotte City Council Votes For Airport Expansion

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte City Council voted Monday in favor of expansion at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Archer Western Contractors, LLC will oversee the $30.5 million expansion of Concourse E, which will add 31, 000 square feet to the existing area.Β  Included in the expansion will be additional passenger hold rooms, public restrooms, and passenger loading bridges.Β Β  Also, the Express Training Facility will house training areas for airline employees and space for unaccompanied traveling minors.

The city council awarded a separate $24.5 million contract to Edison Foard Construction Services, LLC for the expansion of the Concourse E concrete ramp and construction of a lavatory dump station, ground support fueling facility, and baggage transfer facility.

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport is operated on a fully self-sustaining financial basis and the funds for the projects are generated by airport revenues.
