The Utilities Commission’s approval was the last step necessary to complete the transaction.

Duke Energy will add Piedmont Natural Gas’ one million natural gas customers to their existing 525,000 natural gas accounts and 7.4 million electric customers.

“Uniting Duke Energy with Piedmont Natural Gas is a powerful combination for our customers and the communities we serve,” said Lynn Good, chairman, president and CEO of Duke Energy.

Duke Energy says they will not immediately change service request procedures, service phone numbers, or billing options for Piedmont Natural Gas Customers, as they work to absorb Piedmont’s corporate functions into Duke’s structure.

Both companies are headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.
