CMPD Animal Care And Control Unit Deployed To Edgecombe County
CHARLOTTE,N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenbrug Animal Care & Control Division’s Emergency Response Team and Large Animal Rescue Team have been deployed to Edgecombe County.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, ACC has been in communication with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in case reinforcements were needed in eastern North Carolina.
Edgecombe County’s Animal Control Shelter is currently handling approximately 150-200 animals, which is more than their normal capacity.Β Also, the need for equine rescue may be likely once the flood waters crest and recede.
ACC is sending an Emergency Response Trailer for companion pets, a large horse trailer to transport livestock, portable corrals to contain livestock, and two Animal Control vans to transport companion pets.
The seven member ACC team will include Animal Control officers trained in large animal rescue and an Enforcement Supervisor with equine experience. The veterinary team consists of the shelter manager who has an equine background and a Kennel supervisor to manage companion pets.
