A GoFundMe account initiated by a group of Democrats to help the firebombed GOP office raised over $13,000 in just 40 minutes.

The account was created by David Weinberger of Brookline, Massachusetts with the intentions of denouncing what was characterized as an “abhorrent threat”.

The GoFundMe page statement said:

“On October 16, a North Carolina headquarters of the Republican Party was firebombed , and an abhorrent threat was painted on its outside wall

As Democrats, we are starting this campaign to enable the Orange County, North Carolina Republican office to re-open as soon as possible.

Until an investigation is undertaken, we cannot know who did this or why. No matter the result, this is not how Americans resolve their differences. We talk, we argue, sometimes we march, and most of all we vote. We do not resort to violence by individuals or by mobs.

So, let’s all pitch in , no matter what your party affiliation, in and get that office open again quickly.”

Hillsborough police said the office was bombed by a “Molotov cocktail” that was thrown through a window.

According to police, graffiti was spray painted on the wall saying, “Nazi Republicans leave town or else”.

In a statement, The North Carolina Republican Party said they will increase security at events and offices and called the vandalism a “hate crime” and a “vicious attack”.

The North Carolina Democratic Party has condemned the attacks.

North Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Patsy Keever said, “The North Carolina Democratic Party strongly condemns this attack. Violence has no place in our political system. We hope the perpetrators of this attack are brought to swift justice, and we are thankful that no one was hurt. Our deepest sympathies are with everyone at the North Carolina Republican Party.”
