Teen Uses Wish To Help Other Patients

RALEIGH, N.C. – A North Carolina teen in remission from stage four brain cancer is using her Make-a-Wish grant to help others.

Indi Powell is a special teen with a very big heart for pediatric patients like herself. She’s giving back to kids at her local children’s hospital.

After years of grueling cancer treatments, Powell, 17, is in remission and is so thankful for the care and support she received at UNC Children’s Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Powell used her Make-a-Wish grant to make a big impact.

“I wanted to do something as a give-back wish, as they call it, to where I give something to other people,” Powell said. “My wish is to have a toy store.”

A special, free, pop-up toy shop at UNC Children’s Hospital for patients to pick out gifts.

Giving is the gift for Powell.

“So emotionally joyful because I’m able to bring even just a smile to their faces means the world to me,” Powell said.

Powell said she plans to pursue a career in the medical field and one day work for a pediatric hospital.
