Mecklenburg County Detention Officer Arrested For Providing Contraband To Inmate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Mecklenburg County Detention Officer was arrested and terminated after providing contraband to an inmate, according to a news release.

Officer Melissa Gordon was allegedly found in violation for providing contraband to an inmate at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center-Central. She was arrested and charged on Thursday, March 21st.

Officials did not specify the contraband that Gordon provided to the inmate.

“The operation of a facility like Detention Center-Central presents innumerable challenges on the best of days. Almost all of these are challenges we accept and embrace at MCSO. But when a staff member violates their oath and the trust I placed in them, it creates a challenge that is unacceptable and intolerable,” Sheriff McFadden said.

Gordon worked for the sheriff’s office since January 21st, 2020.

This is the second time this week an employee with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has been terminated.
