Suspect Dead After Shooting At Law Enforcement, Injuring One Deputy

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – A man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday after firing shots at law enforcement, sending one deputy to the hospital, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 7:40 a.m., fire personnel responded to a home in Mooresville on Northampton Drive near Langtree Road in regards to a suspect exhibiting unusual behavior.

When they arrived, they encountered 27-year-old Dylan Rober Mason allegedly brandishing a knife, officials said. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and Mooresville Police Department were called to the scene to assist.

When deputies arrived, officials said Maslon fired a weapon at them, and the deputies returned fire.

While officers attempted multiple times to talk with Maslon to deescalate the situation, officials said Maslon continued to fire at law enforcement.

Throughout the gunfire exchange, one deputy sustained an injury and was transported to a hospital. The suspect also connected with the sheriff’s office’s Bearcat vehicle.

At this point in the standoff, officials decided to send a robot into the home to locate the suspect. The sheriff’s office said the robot found Maslon in an upstairs room with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect was pronounced dead.

Maslon was facing multiple charges, including assault on a government official and breaking and entering to terrorize or injure. He was out on bond while these charges were pending in court, officials said.

The injured deputy is expected to make a full recovery and be released.
