Cooper Claims He Won North Carolina Gubernatorial Race, McCrory Says It’s Not Over Yet

RALEIGH, N.C. — An extremely close race for the Governor in North Carolina has both candidates telling supporters different messages.

Gov. Pat McCrory told his supporters that a winner won’t be declared until November 18th due to a tight race with incumbent Roy Cooper.  November 18th is the date that every county’s board of election has to canvass the votes and report it to the North Carolina Board of Elections.

With 99.93% of precincts reporting in North Carolina, Cooper is winning with 48.96% of the vote compared to McCrory’s 48.88% of the vote.

Cooper told his supporters that he won the race and will be the next Governor of North Carolina.

McCrory said provisional ballots will have to be counted before a decision is made. There are 90,000 early votes that are still being counted in Durham County.

This is a developing story.  Check back for updates.
