North Carolina DMV Delays Could Impact Voters

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There could be a problem come November for North Carolina voters.

The North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles is dealing with delay issues, issuing driver’s licenses and IDs.

The DMV says their normal 15-day turnaround time for physical licenses or IDs has jumped to six weeks.

According to the agency, this happened after a contractor printed more than 2,000 IDs it shouldn’t have.

The DMV does issue temporary paper IDs, but the State Board of Elections says you will not be able to use that temporary ID to vote.

“It’s affecting about 50,000 customers per week,” NCDMV Marty Homan said.

The NCDMV does not have a timeline for when things will get back to normal. A spokesperson said he is confident the state will get back to normal by the November general election.
