Fantastic Father’s Day Ahead
Isolated afternoon pop-up storms will be our only reprieve from the heat over the next seven days.
The Queen City just had its hottest afternoon in 281 days on Friday, and temperatures are standing on business despite the passage of a cold front early this Saturday morning. Highs currently reside in the lower 90s across the Piedmont and Foothills this afternoon as mostly sunny skies continue to bake the Carolinas. Lows will only dip near 70º overnight into Sunday as we wake up to a mild and muggy morning. The sticky feels will carry into our Father’s Day and could help juice up a few isolated storms in the afternoon, but Dad’s big day will otherwise be a beauty. Highs will largely end up in the 80s to close out the weekend, but areas that stay dry with more sunshine will make a run at 90º.
The week ahead looks hot and sunny – typical for a mid-June pattern. Winds from the southeast will pump warm, but surprisingly drier air into the Carolinas from the Atlantic as a powerful ridge sets up shop over the East Coast. Highs will cruise near 90º through the workweek in the Metro while our mountain counties enjoy afternoon temperatures closer to 80º. Our only source of cooler air over the next seven days comes in the form of isolated pop-up storms, but most cells will get squashed by the ridge’s descending air before they can get going.
