Pedestrian Hit, Killed On I-77, No Charges Filed

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – No charges will be filed after a pedestrian was struck and killed on I-77 overnight near Mooresville, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to I-77 south near NC 150 at exit 36 to investigate a collision involving a pedestrian and a tractor trailer.

The investigation determined that the pedestrian, 63-year-old Calvin Jay May, was walking on the highway in dark clothing. The highway was not lit and May was struck by the tractor-trailer.

May died at the scene.

The tractor-trailer driver, 26-year-old Meiko Madera, was not injured.

Neither speed nor impairment are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, officials said.
