Political Analysts React To Trump Rally In Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC — Wednesday was a day full of energy and excitement for 10,000 Donald Trump supporters.
“Trump delivers. He is a high energy performer,” said Edwin Peacock.
Peacock is a former Charlotte City Councilmember. He said the 45th president had an opportunity Wednesday night to reach many in North Carolina still on the fence.
Democrat, Michael Barnes, believes the impressive rally turnout was to be expected.
“He’s had large rallies, uh, from the very beginning of his political career. So the rallies aren’t surprising because, you know, it’s a turnout of people to see a spectacle,” Barnes explained.
Barnes, also a former Charlotte City Councilmember, believes the spectacle of the rally lacked substance.
“I think it’s really risky as a political candidate not to present a vision or a plan to the voters.” said Barnes.
When the former president did talk policy, it was more about policies of his current and former opponents, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden.
“Politics is a contact sport and he is a contact player. He is trying out his message. His speechwriters are putting out really strong language to see which one sticks,” Peacock said.
Those attacks on Biden and Harris weren’t always factual. A CNN report proves that Trump lied about Harris’ prior stances on abortion, banning of red meat, and the number of migrants who crossed the border illegally.
“If you’re going to describe a problem to us, do it honestly and then tell the voters how you’re going to fix it,” said Barnes.
