City Of York To End Curbside Recycling Services

YORK, SC — The City of York has announced the discontinuation of its curbside recycling services. This decision comes after careful consideration of the program’s sustainability and financial viability.

Over the past few years, the city has faced increasing challenges in maintaining the curbside recycling program. Rising processing costs have made it increasingly difficult to sustain the program, paired with low participation rates. Despite efforts to adjust to these changes, the cost of continuing curbside recycling has become economically unviable.

“After considering all available options, we have made the difficult decision to end curbside recycling services,” said Chris Wallace, Public Works Director. “We recognize the importance of recycling to our residents and the environment, but we also have a responsibility to manage taxpayer funds wisely.”

The final curbside recycling collection will take place on Friday, September 27, 2024, and the service will end on September 28, 2024. Residents will keep their city-issued recycling bins and are encouraged to utilize the drop-off recycling centers, which will continue to operate and accept a wide range of recyclable materials.
