Firework Mortar Explodes In Rowan County Resident’s Mailbox

SALISBURY, N.C. – Deputies are conducting an investigation after a firework mortar exploded in Rowan County resident’s mailbox on Wednesday morning.

Around 10 a.m., the resident checked the mail and as they were walking away, the device exploded.

Bomb squad, Rowan County deputies and postal inspectors responded to West NC 152 between Stirewalt Road and Brown Road.

Around the same time, another resident approximately one mile away on Brown Road heard a loud noise in the area. Officers responded and found a trash can with debris from a small explosion.

Officials said the firework device was not homemade, and that it could be bought at a store.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

As of now, there is no threat to the community.
