Mother And Unborn Baby Killed In Belmont Crash

 BELMONT, N.C. — A mother and her unborn baby died in a crash early Sunday morning on I-85 South at exit 27.

Heather Locklard, 21 and seven months pregnant, was a passenger in car with two toddlers and driver Brenda Parrish.

Parrish, 55 was taken to CMC in Charlotte with serious injuries.

The children in the back seat are expected to be ok. They were taken to Caromount Medical Center and one suffered from facial trauma and a broken wrist. Both children were in a car seat.

Locklard was taken to Caromont Regional Medical center where she and her unborn baby died.

The wreck happened just before 1:30 a.m. when the car went off the side of the road and smashed into the exit 27 sign composed of concrete and metal. 

The crash is still under investigation.
