CHARLOTTE, NC — A hotel is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the man who robbed two Charlotte hotels and shot a clerk Thursday evening.

Security photos show the moment the robber pulled a gun on his first hotel clerk.

Friday, family walked passed security as they stopped in Charlotte for the July Fourth weekend.

"Is that why they got the police officer in there?" said Mark Thomas. "Now, I never seen a police officer in a hotel."

Police have been searching for the man in red since he first robbed the Roadway Inn off W. Sugar Creek Rd. just after 7:00 Thursday evening. He pulled a gun and took off with cash.

40 minutes later, police say he hit the Drury Inn and Suites in the University Area. This time, he was more violent. He shot the woman behind the counter and left her in the lobby.

"We didn’t know what was going on," said Sean Saubers. "Police came in asking for the video tapes and stuff. A lot of customers stay over here at this hotel, too. So yeah, it was pretty scary."

Saubers works at a nearby restaurant in the busy shopping center.

Doctors say the woman will survive. Drury Inn and Suites isn’t just stacking officers at every door.

They company is offering the reward money to the first person who turns this man in to police.

"I’m not really worried, but we will take extra precautions. That’s what we always do," said Mark Thomas."

His wife, Tina Thomas, is not so secure.

"Yeah, you have to take extra precautions in these type of situations. A little on the worried side now," said Tina Thomas.

If you recognize the man in the photos, call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
