A Bill To Raise The SC Gas Tax Could Soon Become Law

COLUMBIA, SC — For the first time in 30 years, a bill that would raise South Carolina’s gas tax could become law.

On Tuesday, the House approved a compromise that raises the gas tax by 12 cents each year over the next six years. Governor McMaster promised to veto the bill, but an override is expected.

Once the bill passes it is expected to raise more than $600 million a year for roadwork across the state.
