Students On Edge After Weapons, ‘Hit List’ Found In Teen’s Book Bag
MARSHVILLE, NC — Investigators believe a teen planned to attack fellow students at Forest Hills High School in Union County after a hit list and weapons were discovered inside the student’s book bag.
Photo evidence shows knives deputies say a student brought to the high school planning to stab several classmates today.
Malik Huntley, a student at Forest Hills, says, “that is a very brutal way to do anybody.”
Deputies say the student also armed himself with flammable liquid, fireworks, and a dismantled shotgun shell. He also carried a hit list of victims. Haunting to classmates.
“Who knows who was on that list. Could’ve been me, my close friends.”
The discovery came after Canadian law enforcement saw an online chat room discussion in which investigators say the student was threatening to stab several kids at school today.
Canada called state investigators, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office arrested the 16-year-old student before any violence erupted.
Union County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Underwood says, “I think it was a great possibility that there was, something, um planned for today. I do think we stopped something before it happened.”
The school district is notifying all the students on the hit list.
A spokesperson tells WCCB Charlotte they “commend deputies for their immediate response to this matter. We take every threat seriously and staff will continue to work to keep all schools safe.”
Students are relieved that the district will put more officers on campus tomorrow.
Huntley says, “it does have me on edge a lot because I think about while what if somebody is going to come into our school right now and harm us.”
On Wednesday, the Union County Sheriff’s Office will have a news conference to discuss the situation further.
Tonight however, the sheriff is warning parents to encourage their kids to speak to school officials if they are having problems.
