CMPD Makes Arrest In 1992 Sexual Assault Cold Case

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have arrested and charged a man in connection to a 1992 cold case involving a shooting and sexual assault.

Billy Henry, 65, has been charged with Attempted Murder, 1st Degree Rape, 1st Degree Kidnapping, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. Detectives say new advances in technology allowed them to reopen the case and examine evidence and DNA, which proved to be a match for Henry.

According to reports, on January 18, 1992 a woman was sexually assaulted and shot in the head on Bost Street in west Charlotte. The victim survived the shooting and was treated for her injuries, but officials say she suffered permanent disabilities as a result. Police were never able to locate a suspect at the time of the incident.

Once investigators matched Henry’s DNA to the crime, warrants were issued and he was arrested Wednesday in Hickory.

Henry is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail.
