Shooting near South End leaves one person with life-threatening injuries

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred just before 7 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex on Romare Bearden Drive near Charlotte’s South End. CMPD has not released details, but Medic announced one person was transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries.

A nearby neighbor who was home at the time said they heard between four and six gunshots. That resident peaked through their window and said they saw a person in a white car try to drive away before they drove into a UPS truck in the apartment complex parking lot.

On the scene CSI took pictures of the white car, which had its airbags deployed. The white car’s bumper appeared to be ripped off. The UPS driver was escorted out of the scene by an officer and did not comment. A couple of said they heard the gunshots and were fearful.

CMPD has not yet released further information on this incident.
