UNION CO., N.C. – A U.S. Marshals task force has tracked down and arrested a fugitive who was wanted by the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Baldomero Hernandez-Jimenez was on the run for several years. In 2020, Union County Sheriff’s deputies charged 60-year-old Hernandez-Jimenez with multiple sexual offenses, including several counts of Statutory Rape, Statutory Sexual Offense, and Indecent Liberties with a Child.

Deputies arrested him in October of 2020. He was held under a $500,000 secured bond. However, approximately a month later, he managed to post bond and was released.

The Sheriff’s Office says that soon after his release, Hernandez-Jimenez failed to appear for his scheduled court date. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Union County District Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Marshals, and the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force. In a news release, the UCSO says, “Together, these agencies navigated a demanding legal process and conducted a thorough international manhunt, which ultimately led to Hernandez-Jimenez being located and apprehended in Mexico by a U.S. Marshals task force.”

After his second arrest and extradition to the United States, UCSO S.H.I.E.L.D. Unit deputies took custody of Hernandez-Jimenez and processed him back into the Union County Detention Center. He is currently being held on a $300,000 secured bond. In addition to the outstanding warrants for his serious charges, a hold was also issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), preventing his release.

Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey says, “This case underscores our steadfast commitment to justice and accountability. No matter how far an offender runs or how long it takes, we will pursue them relentlessly to ensure they are held accountable for their crimes.”
