DETROIT (AP) β€” Anibal (AH’-nih-bahl) Sanchez’s no-hit bid was broken up when former Detroit teammate Ezequiel (eh-ZEE’-kwihl) Carrera lined a single to left with one out in the eighth inning, and the Tigers held on to beat Toronto 8-6 last night. Sanchez was trying to become the sixth pitcher to throw no-hitters in the AL and NL. Sanchez pitched a no-hitter for the Florida Marlins in 2006.

NEW YORK (AP) β€” Brain McCann hit a three-run homer in the 12th inning, rallying the New York Yankees for a second time and giving them a dramatic 7-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Mark Teixeira (teh-SHEHR’-uh) hit a tying three-run homer in the eighth against Kevin Jepsen, then had an RBI single in the 12th for the AL East-leading Yanks.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)β€” Josh Hamilton had a double in three at-bats for Texas as the Rangers lost to the L.A. Angels 8-2. It was Hamilton’s first game against L.A. since the abrupt April 27th trade that sent the former five-time All-Star back to Texas after two injury-plagued seasons in Los Angeles.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. (AP) β€” Jhonattan Vegas shot a 5-under 65 to tie Scott Langley for the 36-hole lead at the Greenbrier Classic at 9-under par. But it’s really anybody’s tournament as 23 golfers start the weekend within three shots of the lead, including seven at 8 under.
