Warming shelters will open in Mecklenburg County beginning Sunday

Charlotte will see near or below freezing temperatures for 72-hours straight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Activation of extreme weather protocols will begin the evening of Sunday, January 19 through Wednesday, January 22.

Several organizations are working together to provide people experiencing homelessness a place of warmth during the extreme cold.

According to the City of Charlotte, “Hearts for the Invisible Charlotte will deploy street outreach teams to homeless encampments to encourage anyone living unsheltered to visit a shelter and to provide information on how to access shelter. Individuals declining shelter will be provided blankets, if needed.”

Roof Above will provide shelter for men and expanded capacity at either of its locations – either 1210 N. Tryon St. or 3410 Statesville Ave. beginning at 4:30 pm. The Salvation Army will provide shelter for women and families at 534 Spratt St. from 4:30 pm to 7 pm.
