ORIGINAL STORY POSTED JUNE 29TH:
CHARLOTTE, NC — Two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were killed Thursday in a crash involving a tractor trailer in southwest Charlotte.
The accident happened shortly before 1pm on Steele Creek Road at Westinghouse Commons Drive. According to reports, witnesses say a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta was passing other vehicles before swerving into oncoming traffic and hitting an International tractor trailer.
The driver, 32-year-old Ignacio Cordova, and a 14-year-old boy sitting in the front passenger seat were both killed in the accident. Officials say an 11-year-old girl in the backseat of the car was taken to CMC with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
Police say the section of road where the accident happened is not marked for passing in either direction. Officials say alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor for either driver, but an investigation into possible excessive speed on the part of the Jetta is ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed this accident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
