CHARLOTTE, NC — Theodore Clark, has been identified as the suspect who was driving the stolen motor vehicle which struck the officer and who was arrested in this case.
The stolen 2005 Kia Optima was spotted shortly after 1pm near Central Avenue and Sharon Amity Road. CMPD says two officers stopped the vehicle, but the suspect, Clark, took off, hitting one of the officers, as they were approaching the car.
According to reports, the suspect hit another vehicle near Central and Morningside Drive during the chase. The people inside that vehicle were not injured.
Clark crashed into a tree on Logie Avenue a short time later and tried to flee on foot. He was quickly taken into custody, police say, and a female passenger was also detained.
CMPD says the officer hit received minor injuries and is being treated at CMC.
Clark has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Hit and Run-Personal Injury, Hit and Run-Property Damage, Resist/Obstruct/Delay, Failing to Heed Lights and Sirens, Fleeing to Elude Law Enforcement, Driving without a License, Speeding and Reckless Driving.
He also had two outstanding Orders for his Arrest stemming from another case which have been served on him. These included Breaking and Entering and Larceny after Breaking and Entering.
