Parents feel betrayed after a Monroe daycare employee is charged with misdemeanor child abuse

MONROE, N.C. — Parents are angry with a Monroe daycare after an employee was arrested and charged with misdemeanor child abuse. Childtime Learning Center is facing backlash for what some parents have called harsh treatment of kids.

Monroe Police Department announced Childtime employee, Delicia Monay Chambers was arrested and charged with three counts of misdemeanor child abuse. Investigators say Chambers sprayed a bottle of water on children in the daycare.

The North Carolina Department of Child Development and Early Education completed two inspections of the daycare. The first inspection took place January 6th and found that proper staff to child ratios were not being maintained at all times. The report states that staff did not have access to child medical authorizations and emergency contacts. This initial inspection also found that staff received no training or certifications on CPR and first aid. One parent, Alyssa, has sent her son to the daycare for a year and a half and was discouraged by the lack of training completed by employees.

“I think they should know how to do things like that in case there is an emergency,” Alyssa said.

A second inspection completed at Childtime on January 15th showed all previous issues were resolved by the daycare. The second report did not verify that staff had been trained since the first inspection. State training resources were shared with the daycare in this report.

Several parents could be seen picking up their children from Childtime Friday night. Some of those parents said new employees have been hired by the daycare, and pointed to this as a reason for why they feel comfortable sending their children back to the daycare.

Childtime refused to answer any questions and said no further statement would be provided at this time.
