CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An accused serial rapist, who police say raped two women in Charlotte, has been arrested in South Carolina.
Investigators say Lance Elam was taken into custody in Blufton, South Carolina on sex assault and burglary charges.

Elam is also linked to two sexual assault cases that happened in Charlotte in 2016 and a burglary case in Midland, Texas.
Police say Elam broke into an apartment complex on Clemson Avenue in east Charlotte on January 6, 2016 and forcibly raped a woman at gunpoint.
He is also accused of breaking into an apartment on Runaway Bay Drive in southeast Charlotte and forcibly raping a woman on August 7, 2016.
DNA evidence from both scenes were collected. During the investigation of the 2016 rapes, police determined the same DNA evidence was linked to a burglary case that happened in Texas. However, no suspect had been identified as matching the DNA.
Elam was arrested on April 28, 2017 for a sexual assault in Blufton and his DNA matched the DNA found at the two Charlotte sex assault locations and the burglary in Texas.
Detectives signed a total of sixteen warrants on Elam. There is no timetable on his return to Mecklenburg County. He remains in custody in South Carolina.
