Tracking southerly showers Monday, temperatures spring forward

The best rain chances lie south of I-85 on Monday.

The sunshine has returned to the Queen City after a cloudy start to our Sunday, but temperatures remain on the cooler side after a toasty Saturday. Our time in the sun won’t last long – clouds and scattered showers build in from the southwest overnight. Rain chances will be highest south of I-85 on Monday, but a few stray drizzles may make their way north of the Metro in the afternoon. Areas along I-40 and northward may very well stay dry throughout the day as highs surge near 60º while our South Carolina communities may struggle to get out of the 40s due to the rain. Regardless of what happens on Monday, much brighter skies return by the second day of the workweek.

Bright sunshine makes its mark on the Carolinas on Tuesday and Wednesday, and temperatures respond accordingly. Highs will soar into the mid-70s before the mercury rises near 80º on these two respective days. A weak disturbance sweeps into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area from the west by Thursday afternoon – while rain chances don’t look impressive, the system will throw more clouds our way to end the workweek. It’s still too early for specifics, but a second, stronger system may reach us next weekend. We’ll need to watch for severe weather potential around this timeframe.
