JJ’s Red Hots closing after nearly 13 years
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After nearly 13 years, JJ’s Red Hots is saying goodbye.
Fans lined up at the popular Dilworth restaurant to get one last hot dog. The restaurant thanked customers on Facebook for their loyalty and announced this Sunday, March 16 will be their last day.
They wrote, “We couldn’t shred enough cheddar to keep it going.”
“Sales have been strong. The community’s been great in support of us, but it’s just hard at the end of the day to shake out a few nickels, if you know what I mean,” Owner Jonathan Luther said.
Luther said with rising costs, he didn’t feel comfortable raising prices on customers.
“The answer is a $10 hot dog, and I couldn’t do that to my customers,” Luther said. “You can only raise prices so much before it feels like I’m taking advantage of them.”
JJ’s Red Hots says its food truck and catering operations will remain open. The brick and mortar store will be open from 11am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
