Discussion
We’re kicking off the work week with another warm and breezy day as a cold front approaches the area. Highs will reach the low to mid 80s with southwest gusts up to 20-25 mph. Clouds will increase through the afternoon, but rain holds off for most — only the mountains and foothills could see a few isolated showers later this evening.
The cold front will slide in tonight, but it will stall over the area through the end of the week. This will lock us into a daily storm pattern. Expect scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms mainly driven by daytime heating and moisture pooling along the front. The Storm Prediction Center has included the Piedmont in a level 1 (out of 5) severe threat, for isolated strong to severe storms Tuesday afternoon and evening. Highs will top out in the low 80s and there will be enough upper level energy for a storm or two capable of producing damaging wind and small hail.
The pattern won’t budge much through the end of the week with the stalled front keeping us in a rinse and repeat cycle. We’ll see daily storm chances with highs in the mid to upper 70s. Lows will remain mild, only falling into the low 60s each evening. Another weak upper disturbance may arrive by this weekend, which will keep storm chances in the forecast with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.
